A cracked cylinder head or engine block may or may not be bad news depending on the size and location of the crack(s), the value of the casting and what it will take to fix the crack(s) versus what it would cost you to replace the casting. Read what your options are in this Larry Carley feature. Jcb 3cx 1989 manual. Settlement cracks in outer cavity wall of property. There can be a huge number of different reasons for cracks in the home. In the majority of cases small, hairline cracks in walls, ceilings and plaster can be a sign of simple expansion and contraction movement within your home due to humidity, temperature and the way that 100+ different materials in your home react to this, all expanding. Cracks Yes I understand what you are saying spunky eml, bonding with a mesh bedded in then skim coat. What Iwas saying was to stop the cracks reapearing I didnt kow if I had to remove all the plaster back to the blocks then put plaster board ontop of the blocks and a finishing skim to solve the problem.
We have removed the pebbledash from our 30s house which had an extension added to it in the 80s made from 'solid' 9' thermalite blocks. This has revealed a few cracks that go straight through the blocks. These are only a couple of mm wide but this is the time to sort it out. The plasterer has suggested that a sheet of expanded metal over the area should sort it out. Is this a sensible option?I guess if it were 2 leaves of brick I would cut out the damaged brickwork and replace but it seems to be more difficult with a solid wall and supporting the existing wall plate.
What about stitching the damaged area? Would this be worth it or just go with the expanded metal.
Thanks in advance.
